As a lot of people probably do these days, I order almost all my Christmas gifts online. This year I had only one that had not made it before Christmas. My oldest son who lives on the other side of the country was going to be home for the first time in several years and his Christmas gift to me was going to be updating my computer with a bigger hard drive and more memory. He is a computer guru of sorts (orders all his "stuff" wholesale) & I was excited to have this done. The package was showing it was out for delivery (in the small city where I live) on Dec 16, 2008, but it never showed up at my house. Later checking on the tracking info showed after it was on the truck out for delivery in my city, it went on a cross country trip to Texas, Miss., among several other exotic locals (I live in SC).
Christmas came & went with no package. So on the day my son was flying back home & the package had still not arrived, he went to the local Staples & bought the parts he need paying full retail. He was in a rush trying to finish up, he still had to drive over an hour to catch his plane, then low & behold the door bell rings. It is UPS. So, I ask if we can take the package to check the tracking number online to make sure it is the right package (as the package only had a return address, not a company name or logo & I also had one package I had which had not come) and the little pain in the ass driver says yes but to hurry up because he is in a hurry & really doesn't have time for this kind of "crap". So he tosses the box at me & hits me in the face right below my left eye.
My youngest daughter, also (home from Nashville for the holidays), was standing inside the doorway seeing what was going on (she 27). She says to him that she works in customer service at a record label and if she behaved to a customer liked he had just behaved she would have been fired on the spot. His retort back to her was that he didn't have to worry about that, along with a few other choice words.
I have called UPS 6 times to date and was promised each & every time that someone would call me back. Finally yesterday, after the incident took place on Dec 29, 2008 & the date is Feb 18, 2009,I got a call back and instead of being from the main service center it was from a local yokel from the little hick place I live in. He basically told me that UPS delivery drivers are independent contractors and that they have no control of them.
Since UPS refuses to take any kind of action against this abusive, rude driver the only resirt is to call the police & file a report so that I can have charges filed against him.
I do a lot of business on Ebay and had quit using UPS several years ago, because I was having over half my packages being delivered crushed & the contents SEVERELY damaged, plus 2 different Dell computers being delivered at different times looking like they had been dropped off the back of the truck going down the interstate...about half the keys missing out of the keyboard of one as well as the whole computer not working when plugged in. So I had not had a package delivered in years using UPS because of this and I had stopped using them to send packages as well.
Please tell me all your crazy UPS stories... I look forward to it. Vent a little!
